SUFFER FOR NOTHING

One of the Yahoo groups to which I belong is centered about a specific fandom (no names please), and the complete DVD set of the old TV series around which it is based has recently been released. Our list-mom (the lady in charge of this particular fandom organization) has just said, “If only I had the (money) to purchase the series….” I find this an affront. If only she (and many, many others) weren’t busy “donating” fully half of their earnings to the do-nothings of this country, they WOULD be able to easily afford the series of their hearts’ desire. They have a right to it. They’ve earned it. They love the dear old nostalgic TV series every bit as much as I do. But due to their own specific circumstances, and due to governmental legalized theft, they can’t afford it. Because the U. S. government has turned into “the welfare state” (i. e. “the nanny state”), these people have to earn the money but still do without the items that they love. As the bumper sticker says, “Don’t steal; the government doesn’t like the competition.”

Each of these people has but one life only in this universe, and he/she must spend it supporting the lazy, instead of receiving the fruits of his/her own labors which he/she truly desires and deserves and has earned.

A (misguided) liberal friend of ours said to me recently that I “gave my consent” to be robbed of fully half of my earnings when I signed that document to become a teacher decades ago. As I retorted, “I gave no such consent! What was I supposed to do, refuse to sign the contract to teach, or to do anything else?? Was I supposed to sit on my butt and BECOME a welfare recipient, instead of CONTRIBUTING to the welfare state?? That’s not a choice, that’s simply an ultimatum, and only the (slightly) lesser of two evils!!!”

When I was a teacher, I used to (on bad days) come home and bellow, “If the do-nothings want half of my earnings, then let them GET THEIR BUTTS IN THERE and do half of my job, and I’ll go home for the second half of the school-day!” (Gee, maybe in my next universe, I’ll choose to avoid the teaching job that in this universe cost me my health, nearly cost me my life, and did serious damage to my attitude and sanity; perhaps next time, I’ll go “on the dole” and take the easy liberal road myself).

My parents lived through the FDR insanity. (Theirs is now referred to as the “greatest generation”: pity my mother and father didn’t live long enough to know that their self-sacrificing generation would be given that designation). FDR solved a (yes, serious) TEMPORARY dilemma (the Great Depression) by doing PERMANENT damage, actually the ruination of our country. The land of the free and the home of the brave became the land of the dependent and the home of the leech. Now, all that we can do is to move to Mars and start over, and maybe THIS TIME, get it RIGHT! And, of course, the liberals want to steal our hard-earned money and eliminate our chances of doing EVEN THAT, by curtailing our only real inspiration and our only means of escape: the space program!

To paraphrase a recent editorial, “It’s mystifying that it’s considered ‘greedy’ to want to keep one’s own money, but somehow, it’s NOT considered greedy to want someone else’s.” WEIRD and well said!
